OUTCROWD COLLECTIVE: Joyfully Bewildered in Edinburgh

I recently got back from a weekend in Scotland with Si Peplow, Stef Self Control and Lee Basford, setting up a mini version of TJB show at Analogue in Edinburgh. Had an ace weekend, met some lovely folks, show looked ace, great turn out and we all got rather drunk on good Scotch Whisky! Big ups to Russ and Julie at Analogue and shout out to Ruefive for whisky drinkin/camera skills and cultural lessons in the real capital of Scotland and "Teams".

We lastminute.comed a sweeet apartment for not much money which felt like we where squatting at Fred Goodwin's while he was in Hiding! And on the long hung over drive home stopped at the worlds nicest middle class service station in the world. Enjoy the pics I stole of everyone and check out the JB blog for more. -Log

Manifesto

Here's to the crazy folk, the round pegs in the square holes, the misfits, the recluses and the strangers. The people on the fringes of society, outsiders looking over, looking in..."

"The Outcrowd" is a shambolic visual collection of hoodlums and battered psyches, born out of a basic obsession to create. Not to be trusted with pen, paper or any other medium that can leave a mark. Initially formed amongst a group of friends, skateboarders, Illustrators, Designers, Image-Makers and Lurkers.

The Outcrowd has taken on an organic, parasitic growth form, spanning continents and breaking cultural boundaries as more creators mutate to survive. Compiled, curated and realised in 2004 by two artists Lawrence Roper and Simon Peplow (Mr Ben has also been taking a more active role of late).

"This is chance for some of us to air our secret visual diaries, a mass of weird visions and telephone squiggles, that until now have been left ominously gathering dust in darkened corners. For others it's about escaping and creating work they enjoy, outside of any particular agenda. It's about a personal freedom to express themselves. And it's about creating a network to share ideas, collaborate, exhibit, commission and expose. After the success of their first group exhibition in February 2004 The Outcrowd have continued onwards and upwards steadily gathering awards, accolades, commissions, publications, collaborations, exhibitions and growing notoriety on their eventful trail.

We like to keep things loose these days; more of a co-op than a collective. With ever evolving members and co-conspiritors, projects, opportunities, networks, as well as a platform to show case new work, exhibitions, prints, books, t-shirts, badges and a plethora of crafty collectable ephemera created under the Outcrowd umbrella. Be prepared for a continuous visual onslaught from these pencil wrestling enthusiasts.
